2008 Year End Letter

Dear Friends,
It’s been quite a year for Staff of Hope and those we serve in East Africa. The year has gone from unrest and violence following the Kenyan elections to the triumphs of new well openings and the fast approaching graduation of the first senior class at the Oloile Secondary School.

We recently acquired a new rotary drill rig. We are pleased to report it arrived safely in Kenya last week. This new rig, pictured right at the port in Mombassa, Kenya, will increase our drilling capacity to over thirty wells a year. Each of these new deep-water wells will supply fresh water to over 2,000 people and the livestock that they depend on for food and income.

In August we had the awesome experience of celebrating the opening a new well we drilled with the community of Karero. This well supports not only the people of Karero but also the medical clinic we built there earlier this year. It was a truly joyous occasion marked by the crowds that gathered to join in the celebration. Many quickly converged on the well to drink, wash, and play in the water newly available to their community. It was amazing to see the real impact this had on their lives.

The Oloile Secondary School in Kimana, Kenya is coming to the close of its second academic year. This year was notable for two events, the arrival of our new Headmaster and the commencement of the school’s first graduating class this month. We are so grateful to many of you who have given so much to ensure the success of this school.

All of these life-changing accomplishments have only occurred because of our supporters. We ask that you consider how your can support this important ministry to move forward in 2009, continuing to bring access to education, medical care, and fresh water to those who need it most in East Africa. As a 501(c)3 corporation, monetary contributions to Staff of Hope are tax deductible as allowed by law.
